It has been too long since I have posted. Here are some pictures from a Civil War reenactment Eric and I went to in Ridge Top Tennessee near our home. It was a beautiful day just a litte cool in the shade. This horse was funny and a big ham and reminded me of the horse in the Tangled movie, Maximus,

Freedom Is Not Free
- Kelly Strong

I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

Happy Memorial Day

We remember all of our fallen heroes this weekend. A weekend of fun and remembrance for Americans.

Our kitchen Cabinet

This is our cabinet in the kitchen that I have had a blast decorating for the seasons. I am not crazy about the wallpaper in the kitchen but we are redoing a little bit at a time.

Our Living room

This lamp was purchased at an auction in Gallatin TN

More redu

This is our mantel which I hope to replace with an antique mantel when we find one. I found the frame at TJ Maxx and the card is from Barnes and Noble

Roses

I have been rearranging the last few days. I just felt the need to lighten up our home so no cabinet has been safe! My poor hubby doesn't know what to expect when he comes in the door at night.

This is the first cabinet - a builtin by our fireplace. I just bought this lamp at A Stone Cottage in White House TN.

My new quilt

I just finished appliquing the 4 blocks of my new wallhanging. Now I have to embellish and put it together and quilt it. It is from a MaryLou McDonald quilt pattern. I will probably put it away for awhile to work on my new granddaughters baby quilt :)

For Easter Sunday Eric and I attended Sunrise Service at a friend's home. The home is an 1840's home and sits on the banks of the Cumberland River. We sat and listened to the geese flying over and I felt wonderful being in God's church.

We have redecorated the bedroom!

Blog Picture

The Blog picture was taken two weekends ago at an Amish auction. Some girls had ridden their bikes and stopped for bouquets on the way!! I loved the contrast between the dark clothing and pink flowers. Like a Dogwood tree in a way with lovely flowers against the dark bark of the tree.

Sprng is here!

It feels as if Spring is finally here in Middle Tennessee. Our dogwoods, both pink and white, are blooming.

Quilt Guild

I went with 2 new friends today to the local quilt guild - the Lakeshore quilters in Hendersonville. The program was on home invasion that was interested although a little disconcerting!

An Absolute Patience

"An absolute
patience. Trees stand
up to their knees in
fog. The fog slowly flows
uphill. White cobwebs, the grass
leaning where deer
have looked for apples.

The woods from brook to where
the top of the hill looks
over the fog, send up
not one bird.

So absolute, it is no other than
happiness itself, a breathing
too quiet to hear."
